Looking for Steve? So are we! Meantime, here are thirty (30) of his videos to watch 'til he gets back...
BERGAMOT STATION: Crashing the Sweet Sixteen
Santa Monica's BERGAMOT STATION opened in September 1994. On its sixteenth anniversary, we stopped by to say hi.
NO PEACE WITHOUT JESUS
Or so we've been told. A helpful reminder from our friends at the 2005 Peace March on downtown Los Angeles.
ART LOS ANGELES CONTEMPORARY 2010
We were a fly on many walls -- some of them plexiglas -- at this
inaugural edition of the ART LOS ANGELES CONTEMPORARY fair,
presented at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
LOS ANGELES ART SHOW 2009
We gave Steve Cioffi a pastrami burrito and asked him to shoot
footage of the LOS ANGELES ART SHOW 2009 at its new home
in the LA Convention Center. He got halfway through both.
NIGHT CRAWL -- episode 3
On any given night in any given city there are many things to see and do.
We invite you to explore such venues in your community. Visit those
places you like and -- if you can -- spend a few bucks while you're there.
Because there's a parking space in the food chain with your name on it.
NIGHT CRAWL -- episode 4
Another of our crosstown perp walks includes a stop in Chinatown, a walk
through Pershing Square and visit to Gallery 825. Featuring Libby Black,
Charlie James, Paige Wery, Peter Mays, Louis Stern, Kim Tucker, Siri Kaur
and Rebecca Lowry. Special thanks to Lilli Muller and The Toledo Show.
NIGHT CRAWL -- episode 5
We check out Michael Mararian's show at Corey Helford Gallery before
dropping by anotheryearinla's new digs at the Pacific Design Center.
And if Time Travel is your bag, you'll be rambaluciously heptrified by the sight of
Yoshitomo Nara -- back around '95 -- at Blum & Poe's old Santa Monica space.
GLOW IN THE DARK

The 2008 edition of Santa Monica's GLOW Festival was hyped a little too well
and had its plug pulled shortly after midnight. Thousands of revelers
stuck around 'til sunrise anyway. (We sure did.)
CHANGE AMERICA at Robert Berman Gallery
We caught up with gallerist Robert Berman recently in his D5 space
at Bergamot Station. Ever the grand host, Robert was in for a loaded
question or two as he led Tulsa Kinney through the CHANGE AMERICA show.
MAN RAY: PARIS - - L.A.

Toward the end of our previous century, Track 16 Gallery's Tom Patchett
and Robert Berman Gallery's Robert Berman joined forces to present this
now-legendary exhibition featuring hundreds of works by the great MAN RAY.

PAUL McCARTHY -- Assortment: 1973-1983 at Track 16 Gallery

One from the archives: Paul McCarthy, his luggage and some large photographs
at Track 16 Gallery, Santa Monica. Special thanks to Tom Patchett.

CHRISTOPHER RUSSELL -- Cool Beyond Cool

Christopher Russell is everywhere these days. In order to catch up with him,
you may have to stalk him. That's what we did. Next time, we'll bring dog treats.
William S Burroughs: CONCRETE AND BUCKSHOT
The legendary beat author takes a stroll through an exhibit
of his paintings, and he brought Allen Ginsberg with him!

Wm S BURROUGHS, Dennis HOPPER, Allen GINSBERG at Track 16 Gallery / Robert Berman Gallery
Another clip from Burroughs' visit to Santa Monica, where he
got to hang with pals while checkin' out his artwork.
Parris Patton: BECAUSE I CAN'T BE BEETHOVEN -- part 1
One fine Spring day in downtown L.A., artist Parris Patton had a 27-ton ice cube
delivered to Dangerous Curve Gallery. Embedded inside the ice was a 1927 upright
piano. Made for a pretty picture until the sledgehammers came out. Part 1 of two.
Parris Patton: BECAUSE I CAN'T BE BEETHOVEN -- part 2
Once he started slammin' away, Parris figured the ice would fall apart
pretty quickly. When that didn't happen, he attacked it with a flamethrower.
Man against Nature, under the stars. Part 2 of two.
PARRIS PATTON: Splinter Box
Performance artist PARRIS PATTON spent four days (or was it five?) inside a
plexiglass booth at Art LA some while back -- along with an array of axes,
hatchets, chisels, saws and the sweetest cord of California timber God ever
struck a match to. Over the course of that festival, a work of art emerged.

HULA GIRL

Parris Patton? He be splattin'!
A clip from one of the later PAINTBOMBS events, circa 2005.

broadcast of THE NODDING EYE, episode #201 ("Three Rights is a Left").
PAINTBOMBS 16 October 2004 -- part 1
Another round of inner-city mayhem with our cultured cast of chuckleheads,
led by Parris Patton & Dean Groover. Flame On! Clip captured from a
broadcast of THE NODDING EYE, episode #202 ("A Jarful of Bees").

a further step toward madness. Clip captured from a broadcast of
THE NODDING EYE, episode #202 ("A Jarful of Bees").
NO HEART TO BREAK
Spooks ran wild and so did we on a certain Halloween. Extra special
thanks to that man from Columbus, Happy Chichester of Howlin' Maggie
fame, whose music found its way onto the soundtrack somehow.
CINERAMA DOOM
Hollywood landmark in trouble. Concerned citizen speaks out.

BRAVO LARGO
A postcard from the bullring signed by one who got away.

DOMINERO!
No animals were harmed during the making of this picture. Nope.
Nuh-uh. But eight or nine people got ripped up REAL good!
